Fast Forward
Fast-Forward was a multi-media event hosted at Keighley Shared Church and is run by volunteers from local churches, using video, drama, interviews and activities to explore the changes, challenges and choices that face students as they prepare to move from primary to secondary education.
The reason why we decided to organise Fast Forward is because we recognise that friendships are the most important issue with young people moving to secondary school – leaving friends, making new friends, being left out of friendship groups – they're all major concerns. If ever there was a time when young people need support, it's during this transition.
Recognising that there is a marked lack of published resources to support schools/pupils during this time, It's Your Move published by Scripture Union has been specially prepared to meet this need. Al of the children who attend the event receives one of these books.
Feedback from the schools who attended was very positive and we will look to build better links now with the local schools who have not yet attended one of our events. So far we have had approx 650 children attend the event from a range of 22 schools in Keighley.
In the past, Year 7 pupils from Greenhead High School were part of the event sharing their experiences, but we hope to get children involved from Holy Family to come and be part of the event talking to the children and providing positive role models for them. One primary school teacher commented that ‘the Greenhead pupils were brilliant and really helped the children to relate to the issues of moving schools’.
